Pre-school Language and Social Skills
Music and movement are important for coordination, language, social skills and mathematics. These activities also develop listening and memory abilities. Preschool children enjoy the structured programmes and learn without stress in a natural setting.
Many children with language difficulties find it easier to sing rather than to talk. Singing is a good way to develop oral language.
The programme encourages the children to sing well known songs and to create new ones in the tradition of Orff Schulwerk. They also play a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments. The activities are designed to balance listening and copying patterns with the development of creative music making.
Sharing and turn-taking abilities grow naturally from the various activities. When they play a tune using chime bars they can see that everyone is important because if one forgets to come in the melody is broken.
